Steering Oil Maintenance for Massey Ferguson Tractors
When it comes to agricultural machinery, Massey Ferguson tractors, especially MF 235, MF 240, MF 360, MF-350, MF-260, MF-385, MF-375, and MF-385 4WD, stand out as reliable companions for farmers . Let’s understand the essential and critical aspect of checking and changing the steering oil in these models.
Check Steering Oil in MF-240 & MF-260 Tractors
Mechanical steering system of the MF-240 and MF-260 tractors is a testament to simplicity and efficiency. To inspect the steering box’s oil level, remove the designated plug, located on the steering box. Make sure the steering box is completely filled with oil. Refill if the oil level is low and tighten the plug back on.

For the more robust models equipped with power steering—MF-360, MF-375, and MF-385 4WD, a slightly different approach is needed to check the steering oil. Locate the oil reservoir plug adjacent to the steering pump at the engine’s front. If the oil trickles slowly out of the hole, place the plug back in and tighten. Replenish if the oil level is low.

Oil Capacity
Understanding the oil capacity is key to maintaining the power steering system. The steering pump reservoir in MF-385/385 4WD can hold up to 2 liters of oil. To keep the system in top-notch condition, a recommended practice is changing the power steering oil, along with the filter, after every 250 hours of operation.
