Agricultural Productivity Revolution in Botswana

What is Temo Letlotlo Programe in Botswana?

Its big news for Botswana-based farmers that the Government of Botswana has officially launched one of the biggest agricultural revolutions of 2024, named Temo Letlotlo. The main purpose of the program is to increase productivity and output in the agricultural industry of Botswana, as the agricultural sector plays a vital role in the country’s GDP.
Secondly, the main purpose of this program is to enhance food security both for individual households and for the entire nation. Essentially, it aims to help farmers transition to operating in a more commercial manner.

Let’s try to understand the Temo Letlotlo Program without wasting time.
The program has two main parts: Household Food Security and National Food Security. Under the Household Food Security component, small-scale farmers receive full subsidies and support. It’s specifically aimed at farmers who don’t have a regular wage or monthly income, with the cutoff being up to P2,500.00.

So, what’s the bottom line? Temo Letlotlo aims to support farmers financially and technically. It’s like a big push to boost agricultural productivity and ensure a stable food supply at both individual and national levels in Botswana.

Temo Letlotlo Programe Objectives

The Temo Letlotlo Program is not limited to a specific city or farmer; it is designed for entire Botswana and all types of farmers who work hard for themselves and for the country.
The Temo Letlotlo Program is a great initiative by the Botswana Government to make Botswana a prosperous country not only in Africa but also in the world. Below are some main objectives of the Temo Letlotlo Program for farmers, seed suppliers, and farm machinery dealers. This signifies a long-term strategic plan to instill national pride.

  • To increase household food security, this will help micro-scale farmers grow enough food for their daily livelihood. It means that Temo Letlotlo is not just a program, but rather a war against hunger and a promotion of stability in food supply.
  • Timely availability of farm machinery, seeds, and loans for farmers to grow and cultivate more crops under the supervision of agricultural experts. The seasonal loans can be obtained from the National Development Bank.
  • To establish a proper farming system in which every person, including young people, people with disabilities, and women, can participate, ensuring everyone can work safely.
  • For long-term agricultural development in Botswana, this program will act as a collaborative approach, uniting various sectors including government, enterprises, and private entities.
  • Strengthen all communities by uniting farmers to negotiate better deals for their rain-fed crops. Together, we can make a real difference.
  • The Temo Letlotlo Program offers data-driven farming opportunities to farmers that will help in decision-making processes, optimizing resource allocation in a proper and efficient way.
  • The involvement of other main stakeholders such as farm machinery suppliers, seed, and fertilizer suppliers is a significant decision by the government to serve a huge number of farmers based in Botswana in a proper way.
